University Hospital St. Marina – Pleven offers modern diagnostics and a full range of general surgical methods for the treatment of our patients - open, laparoscopic, robotic, and modern radical surgery.
The team of the department consists of 14 experts with specialties in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery, 7 of them are double specialty.
The department has a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund for diagnosis and surgical treatment on a clinical pathway for various diseases:
- Liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas - including benign and malignant neoplasms, hydatid cysts of the liver, gallstones, pancreatitis;
- Stomach - including gastric cancer, complicated gastric ulcer, pyloric stenosis;
- Small intestine and colon - benign and malignant conditions such as colorectal cancer, diverticulitis or polyps of the colon, intestinal obstruction of various origins;
- Anus and perianal space - including complicated and uncomplicated grade III-IV hemorrhoids, perianal abscesses, fissures and fistulas;
- Anterior abdominal wall - inguinal, umbilical, epigastric, femoral hernias, and postoperative hernias after abdominal surgery;
- Chest cavity and its organs - benign and malignant conditions and injuries with resection and reconstruction of the lung, chest wall and pleura;
- Breast - established modern methods of diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer and benign breast conditions are routinely applied;
- Endocrine - for benign and malignant growths of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.
The Department of Surgery has modern operating rooms with equipment for minimally invasive, so-called "bloodless" surgery:
- Video-assisted laparoscopic and thoracoscopic operations using conventional laparoscopic systems - 3D technology and 4K technology with ultra-high resolution - Einstein (Aesculap), Olympus;
- DaVinci robotic surgical system. This includes abdominal surgery for oncological and non-oncological diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and thoracic surgery for oncological diseases of the lungs;
- Bronchoscopy - endoscopic procedures with flexible and rigid optics on the tracheobronchial tree and esophagus.
